After a cold first week the weather was balmy and conducive to
ratcheting up the pace with the ongoing help of the great guys coming
our way--so we were able to diagonally frame, roof, side, wrap and
install windows in five successive days after taking Sunday off...a
manageable sequence only possible on such a petite project. This was of
course mitigated by its complexity and the necessity of prepping it for
Hardie plank siding--which while antithetical to our normal MO will tie
it nicely into the existing home.
The clients were gracious enough to keep their daughter home from school
so of course we drafted her into service for the day, so of course the
weather decided to get feisty and we ended up putting on the rake board
trim and cupola corners in driving sleet, wind and wet....and ran the
dryer with alternating glove and hat combinations every time we came
inside to warm up and grab a coffee.
It was not lost on me how blessed I was to be working with this
wonderful couple and their daughter--creating a family enterprise where
our lives have briefly merged as a guest in their home and working in
tandem to fulfill a dream....one which will always bond us together. It
will be painful to leave tomorrow--but only because we are the richer in
the midst of what we have poured out of our lives for each other. I
will be back to do the interior for a week or so later on--stay tuned
for another story.
