An exemplary hillside home makes for a light-filled variety of spaces
This New Hampshire home sits gently into its grassy hillside, taking advantage of the flat upper landscape for leisure and entertaining, while maintaining access and views to the valley below. It is more special for its unusual organization, as an attached garage connects cleverly up into the kitchen and living spaces. Above, a “u” shaped mezzanine level accommodates bedrooms and reading / play areas, and a cupola brings light into all levels of the house. The kitchen and living areas are open to each other and soaring cupola above, connecting gatherings to the private spaces above. This home is exemplary, as it illustrates a commitment of Geobarns’ leadership to what was once an uncontroversial assertion: that regular people with good jobs and families should be able to afford to build a home. This successful home shows that thoughtful design, simple materials and details and, most importantly, close collaboration can deliver a quality custom home at an affordable cost.
Working with GeoBarns has been a transformative, informative, and rewarding experience. They put the homeowners’ dignity at the top of mind throughout the process. Their suggestions, insight, and final product have helped to create a beautiful home and life for our family.
Having lived in campus housing in a boarding school community for twenty years, my family was both eager and nervous about the transition to living in our own home. GeoBarns made it happen for us. Our first Thanksgiving and Christmas in our home felt so right—so natural—as our GeoBarns home fits with our family’s rhythms and values.
Knowing that our home was built mindfully—with a commitment to sustainability, family, natural light, fitting the Northern New England vernacular—has made all the difference.
Thank you, GeoBarns, we are grateful to call you friends.
